Halo from Judy Basson in Belgium

I went to Glenstantia in Grade 5 and moved to Belgium after the 1st term of school in 2004. I'm known to the swimming team and to the 6th grade. I was in Mrs O'Kelly's class. In 2003 I won the gold medal for butterfly in the interhouse gala. I'm was in the school swimming team and I won a gold medal at the Hillcrest swimming gala. Me and the relay U12 girls won the medley relay for swimming. I had to move to Belgium for my Fathers work which is, Department of Foreign Affairs.
I've been living in Belgium for 6 months now and I've been to many places in Belgium and I've been to the Alps in France where I went on a school trip with my new school called: THE BRITISH SCHOOL OF BRUSSELS. I'm enjoying my school, I've made lots of new friends and I'm learning 3 languages which are French, German and Dutch and English. We go on school trips every year for a week.  I've been to some of the most beautiful places in Belgium and in Brussels. Me and my family went to Disneyland Resort Paris.
My e-mail address is Gotcha_Girl_2@hotmail.com - I would love to hear from all my friends at Glenstantia..

Hi Glenstantia

It’s Clinton Joel from the Grade 7 2004 group.

I never realized how much I would miss GPS until it actually happened!!! I now attend Willow Ridge High School and am happy that I attend it as it is a great school; my first year of High School has been so busy with activities that still can not believe that it is over. In the beginning of grade 8 I was elected as a RCL (Representative Council of Learners) meaning I had meetings nearly every two weeks. I also competed in the following sports swimming, cricket, tennis, athletics, cross country and golf, this is all enough to occupy me for at least a week. Not forgetting about my academics I managed to achieve an aggregate of 80% and at our recent academic awards for 2005 I received cum laude as well as 6 distinctions for my subjects. This year 2006 has once again started off pretty hectic, but with a good start at our recent Interhouse swimming gala I won the junior Victor Ludorum and was reelected as an RCL for a second time.

A message to Glenstantia’s pupils enjoy Primary School to the fullest and grab every opportunity possible, because once you are in High School time fly’s by and then you wish you were still in Primary School.

Keep Striving

Clinton Joel

Hey guyz
This is Yolandi Bester, I was at the school since 1998 -2004, when i had to leave the school because of my dad that had to come work here in Ghana.
I have been here for 9 months and it is really going great. I am in a international school that follows the american system, I am doing well in my work and I am among the top lot. Each grade or class as they call it here, only has about 35 students. The school is for nursery school to grade 12, and they follow the IB, MYP, and IBO curriculm. I started Grade 8 in August and so this year August i go onto Grade 9, so im 6 months ahead of the rest.
We have really nice teachers and the students are great.
Glenstantia, I need to really congratulate you for laying such a good foundation which, can help a student through any school no matter what system they follow.
Guyz please email me, I would love to hear from u guyz!!! You can email me at crazyinghana@gmail.com

The moment I walked into class, there was a feeling of loneliness straight away. I never enjoyed myself in that class. There were always fights there. Luckily, I managed to move to another class and I'm really happy now. No more snobs in my new class! This school is great in education, but also great in school fees. Does anyone know where I can find Mrs Fyfe? I miss her a lot. Oh, and, Mrs Theunissen is now at WHPS.

I'm from Indonesia. I attended Glenstantia Primary School in 1995. I was in Mrs. O'Kelly's class when I left Glenstantia in 1999 and went back to Indonesia.I'm currently attending The University of Moestopo studying Dentistry. Attending Glenstantia was one of the best years of my life. All the teachers and friends were great. At the beginning of my first year, I couldn't speak English fluently but I made it through with the help of all the teachers and I started learning Afrikaans in the immigrant class until I could catch up with the rest of my class. I would like to thank all the teachers for all their greatness. I would also like to thank Glenstantia for giving me an opportunity to learn and experience a lot of new lessons. I went through a really hard time by the time I had to leave South Africa. I missed all the teachers and all of my greatest friends, which I still do.Now, I'm very proud to say that I attended Glenstantia Primary! Thank you, Glenstantia! Wish you all the best.

Since 1999 I have achieved many things both academically and sports wise. I have maintained an 80% average and received top pupil in English and Accounting in my first year at the Glen.
I have also had the privilege of swimming for my Province at the USSASA Championships and receiving my Gauteng colours.
I can’t think of a better place to experience my “childhood” than Glenstantia.  All the teachers were sadly missed when we left for high school!
Thank you for being one of my greatest memories and some of the most enjoyable years of my life.

I started attending Glenstantia in 1996 (grd. 4), just after I had come back from a 6 and a half year residence in Israel.  I stayed there until 1999 (grd. 7) when I sadly had to leave.  I had the honour of being Deputy Head Girl in grd. 7, which is a privelege I will never forget having.
I am now in grd. 11 at Hoërskool Waterkloof and I enjoy every minute of it.  The change from an English school to an Afrikaans one was a bit of an adjustment, but it didn't take too long to get used to it.  I keep busy with pretty much the same things I did in primary school: choir, piano, etc.  (Unfortunately, I had to quit hockey this year, because I don't have time for it.  I hope to back to it next year, though!)  I have ten subjects this year, of which I'm taking 2 as matric subjects so that I have less for next year.
My Glenstantia years were a few of the best years of my life and I have always been proud to say that I was a Glennie.  The teachers all meant a lot to me and were missed a lot when I left.  The other pupils, in retrospect, were great, even though we all had our shares of dislikes and misunderstandings.  Glenstantia, thanks for everything.  I'll never forget you!

During my four years at the Glen I have achieved many things; I have maintained a + 75% academic average, I received a cultural award for my participation in the 2001 musical held at our school - Camelot. In 2001, I was selected for the Batty tour. It is a leadership tour where you are chosen on merit and participation at the school. It is very prestigious to be selected as one of the ten pupils. I have just returned from the tour. We went to Scotland for two weeks and then I went to London and Holland for an extra two weeks. I enjoyed this once in a life time experience very much. I have also been selected to play for the first hockey team and next year we will be touring England. I have also been overseas with my parents and sister many times and have been to many different countries which has helped me become independent and worldly wise.
Next year is my final year of school. I then want to study B-Com Accounting or Actuary Science. I would like to study in England or Stellenbosch.
I regard Glenstantia as one of the top primary schools in South Africa and hope it continues to be so for the next 21 years.

This is Lauren Bowden from leavers 1996. I went to
this fantastic school from 1992 and have so many fond memories - it was great to find you on the web! I'm now living in Perth Australia and finishing my Psychology Degree. I couldn't believe that my old form teacher Mrs Hundemark has just left! Strange to realise that not that much changes. I moved to Aus in 1998 and have been very happy here, although I would really like to catch up with old friends. Hope to hear from some of you.

All the best!

Graduated from the International School of Brussels in 2003 after completing the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and am now at James Madison University in Harrisonburg VA, USA! I am studying Sports Manaagement with minors in French and Economics and managed to get here on a hockey scholarship - www.jmusports.com!

I cherish my time at Glenstantia and was lucky enough to be able to see Mr. Eberlein a couple of years ago when I was in South Africa on holiday!

Much love to all the teachers that are still around!

Basically we are a company that puts consumer product into retail stores such as Pick n Pay and Checkers and so forth.

I see that no-one else from my year has put up any news which is quite sad really, I have good memories of this school.

Well all the best,

My name is Natalie Ericsen. A friend of mine who was with me at Glenstantia forwarded the school's URL to me.  I cannot believe it has been such a long time. I am 25 years old now. I started my very first school year at Glenstantia Primary. We lived right across the road from the school in Anton van Wouw Street.
I believe it was 1983 or 84 that I started there. About 18 years ago!  I really loved that school, it was the one of the best schools I ever attended. I live in Cape Town now and work for Vodacom. I am a Software Developer/Data Administrator.
One of the best achievements of my life was to be elected to represent South Africa in the United States as an ambassador to our country. I worked for the Walt Disney World Co. in Orlando, Florida, for a period of one year and from there went on to study Computer Science.
It is really nice to see your website, brought back some good, fond memories. You should dedicate a page on your website to past pupils, it's always interesting to see, who is doing what and where.
Please let me know when your Anniversary Magazine is out, I would really like to order one from yourselves.

I started Std 1 in 1981 when Glenstantia opened. I loved the school from the start and have never forgotten all my wonderful memories of being there. High school was a blur (The Glen) but Glenstantia was like a family and a home.

I remember some special teachers...Mrs Ferreira, Mrs de Wet, Mrs Fyfe, Mrs MacPherson. I would love to be able to contact any of them to thank them for the wonderful times spent in their classrooms. I lived in fear of Mr Bouwer (is that the correct spelling?) and had my fair share of naughty tricks.

I especially fondly remember the school roller-discos and holiday movies in the hall. Do they still separate boys and girls on the fields? We hated that! Netball used to be such a fun sport, and athletics too. Oh yes, the tuck-shop had delicious food...those Chicken/mayo saamies were divine, so too the vinegar long chips. And the media centre was huge (maybe because I was small).

In summer I used to cycle to school and often arrive just after 6am, and play on the netball field at the end where my friends and I set up an imaginary little house with rooms and a pool.

It was a warm, friendly school with kind teachers and a principal who always seemed to have a genuine smile. I would love to walk those corridors again!

After high school (5 years of boredom at The Glen) I moved to Cape Town in 1993 and now live right by the ocean, enjoying daily walks on the beach and walks up Table Mountain. There are a few things I really miss about Pretoria...the thunderstorms and wonderful smell when the rains come; the Jacaranda trees; and my old suburb, Garsfontein.

Thank you Glenstantia, it was a pleasure to have been taught by you!

I also remember the toasted chicken and mayonnaise sandwiches, where you had to buy a token first before break period to collect your food (40c for toasted chicken and mayonnaise, the yellow round disc...with the hole in it..in case you were wondering).

My sister (Ilse) and brother (Anton) also attended. I think my dad was on the PTA at one stage...cant remember so well.

Anyway, living in London now working as Research Manager for a computer company and loving it. Married with one lovely son (now 5 years old, Jacque)

All the best and keep up the standards which Glenstantia set in the past.

Hi My name is Deborah Lane nee Anderson.

I attended Glenstantia Primary School when it very first opened until the end of 83 when I left to go to The Glen High School.

We left SA to come back to England in the October of 84 and I still have fond memories of my childhood in SA.

I remember the Tuck Shop – toasted sandwiches and lemonade or cola ice lollies and the after school club – marie biscuits, milk and having to sit in a row to read to (Mrs Gray?- not sure if I can remember that correctly). I also remember Brownies!! Ex-pupils I remember are – Sarah Nolan, Julia Kipling, Leanne Pengelly and a lot more faces that I cannot put names to now- I must be getting old.

I also remember playing rounders – which I hated because I could never hit the ball!

I’m now married working as European Credit Manager for an American company.

My brother and I attended school at Glenstantia the first year it opened (in 1981). I was in Standard 5 then. My name is Tracy-Lynne van der Berg (nee Gunnell) and my brother is Brendon Graham Gunnell. I hear the school has grown a lot since then. When we arrived there, there were only tennis courts and a field.  Marcus Andrushka and my brother played tennis together. Some of the Afrikaans children from Constantia Laerskool occupied some of the classes in the last row of classrooms on the top if I remember correctly (nearest to the tennis courts). The Headmaster was Mr Stevens.

I am a secretary employed by the Financial Services Board in the Legal Department.

I left Glenstantia at the end of standard 5, in 1981.  I was a very shy girl (no longer i might add!!) with long brown hair.

My parents are Irish, and in 1981 decided to move the family (all 7 kids!) to Belfast, in the UK. Well, that was a CULTURE SHOCK!!!  We left SA on 5th Dec (104 degrees) and arrived in the uk 14 hours later (4 degrees!!!) They were having the worst winter recorded for 80 years!  The snow was incredible (I hated it!).

My name is Gillian Harris, my maiden name was SPEER. Some names that I would dearly love to hear again are Patrick Bothes, Brett Syndecombe, Scott Glen, Cindy Chapman (i think..), or indeed anyone who remembers me.

These are some people who influenced my life.  I would like to hear from anyone who knew me too.

I now live in a converted barn on a farm in Norfolk, England, and miss my home (SA) greatly!

Just as an afterthought, I attended Glenstantia in it's year of birth!  A brand new school, with no playing fields, and rubble all around it.
